International Women's Day 2019

March 8 is International Women’s Day. With #BalanceforBetter as the theme, we at MRG wanted to share why a more gender-balanced hiring and promoting philosophy is important. According to economists at S&P, if more efforts are made to include women in the workforce, especially in male dominated roles, the US could experience a 5-10% increase in our GDP in the coming decades. Globally, more women in the workforce may increase the GDP by as much as 26%. Statistics are staggering as you see the ripple effect women have when in leadership roles. Women bring initiative, strength in core competencies, and resilience to the table.

As a small business who appreciates those who step out boldly, we honor women from successful companies who are accomplishing some groundbreaking things.

  • Julia Hartz, CEO and co-founder, Eventbrite

  • Sara Blakely, founder and owner, SPANX

  • Rose Marcario, CEO, Patagonia

  • Anne Wojcicki, CEO and co-founder, 23andMe

We honor those who have fought hard for gender rights, knocked down doors, and broken glass ceilings.

Many successful women have made awesome contributions, whether it’s someone well-known, someone not quite so well known, or a wonderful woman you work beside every day. It’s important for all of us to appreciate the value of each brave woman who just might inspire us every day despite working against the odds!

“I want to be in the arena. I want to be brave with my life. And when we make the choice to dare greatly, we sign up to get our asses kicked. We can choose courage or we can choose comfort, but we can’t have both. Not at the same time.”  – Brene Brown
